Back in 2015, just after my graduation in Software Engineering at the University of Brasília, I was awarded as Best Innovation Project by the development of the Intelligent System to Increase Reliability in Public Transport.  Also, I've contributed alongside another 2 projects with University of Brasília to win another award:

"The quality of the three works of the University of Brasília presented at Campus Future, the academic space of the 2015 edition of Campus Party, earned the University with Best Projects award. The institution in the federal capital displaced 42 others from all over the country with initiatives that included students and professors from the Department of Computer Science (CIC) and the Faculty UnB Gama (FGA). Transport system won the Most Innovative Project category."

In short, my award-winning project was an algorithm to identify relevant information on public transportation using GPS data from users using a mobile app that I've developed. It aimed to inform passengers, companies and the government about commuting times, peak times and the most used bus stops. The prototype identified 4700 bus stops in the Federal District and collected information during 116 trips.

Back in the day, already with the plans for starting up my consulting activities, I've said to UnB Newspaper:

“My intention is to use technology and contribute to better transportation, which helps people's lives”

These combined with my outstanding academic performance guaranteed me a six-month internship at the Fraunhofer Institute, in Germany, that later on became a Research Assistent position for a whole year and changed completly my original plans and life trajectory.

Professor Fabrício Braz, who was my supervisor/advisor at the time, proudly said to the UnB News: “It is very good to work with Rafael. He's very creative, determined and can't get enough”. Later on that year, professor Braz and I gave an interview to TV Senado (Brazilian Senate public television) talking about the importance of software engineering in the modern world and the perspectives of this branch in Brazil.

In june of 2015, I also aired on Radio Agência Nacional (Brazil's National Radio Agency), for the show "Nosso Ambiente"  (lit. "Our Environment"), a special production of EBC Radios, talking to the journalist Rejane Limaverde.

One of the biggest challenges in Brazilian cities is facing our daily traffic [...] what mobilized the student of software engineering, from the University of Brasília, Rafael de Souza Queiroz, to find a less stressful way to use public transport. He created a collaborative app where users can help locate where the bus is, if it is full. The mobile's GPS also helps with this information.

Simpps - Software Engineer, IT Consultant, Web, FullStack DevSimpps - Rafael Queiroz

In September 2020, I was invited by professors Jesiel Viana and Jader Anderson Oliveira de Abreu, at IFPI - Federal Institute of Piauí and Mambee "Software School Factory" to talk about the German IT market on their livecast.

In the interview, I've shared my professional, personal, and academic experience and gave some overview of the opportunities and challenges I see in the German IT market.

12 years ago I’ve started as Web Developer at the Technical School of Brasilia. During my Software Engineer graduation I continued worked acquiring experience from Web, Mobile, DevOps, Data Analysis and Management (IT Infrastructure, Software Portfolio and Configuration).

In 2015 I got media attention in Brazil for being national-wide awarded as "Best Innovation Project" for a Public Transportation Mobile Data Analysis. After that graduation I was invited by the Fraunhofer SIT to work in Germany.

During the switch period, I had the great chance to work for the Ministry of Communications of Brazil to coordinate the portfolio move from 192 legacy repositories to 65 modern repositories with proper configuration management in a DevOps environment (GitLab, Jenkins, Circle CI). This task including the knowledge transfer amid two external providers.

The by-product of this work went public as one article in Knowledge Engineering Management and another one in Integration of Heterogeneous Data Source, which I am co-author in an international conference (ICEIS 2017).

In the last years by Record Evolution I’ve become a Scrum Master, splitting the time between the development and maintenance of a IoT Cloud Platform and external consultancy leading the migration from credit risk databases of several German corporate banks.
